I’ve came to a small problem while editing my post of ‘Appulous Troll Answers’. Wish you won’t have the same problem.

First I’d added the English post few days ago, then the Chinese post today. Due to the default language of my site is Chinese, there’s no ‘Add Translation’ option on the English post edit page, only the message ‘This is a translation of xx’ of which you may appoint this post to a specific Chinese post. I wrote the Chinese standalone post and wanted to appoint the English one to this one.

But the result sucks. There are a bunch of Chinese posts but none of them is the one I’ve just written. It seems the plugin randomly selects some posts but there is not enough space to show them all, another reason is there’s no such function that query all your posts. To make my translation corresponded, I have to delete the written one and re-write another formal ‘Translation’. This is odd.

My tip, is to remind all friends using the Multilingual Plugin, to write a post in their default language first, then the translation post using ‘add a translation’ function. Do NOT write posts in different languages and hope to link them together (at least before the plugin writer fixs this).

P.S. Question: my default language is Simplified Chinese, but everything but the plugin at admin panel shows in English. Anyone know why?

I’ve been using WordPress for a while with low PR and visit. Actually I know the reason indeed: I am too serious about framework, and it seems I cannot move on without a perfect platform. That might be the case I seldom finish a complete post. Content is too important for a site that without it, a fancy site will be nothing at all. Specifically for my site, there’s something I think useful.

1. Theme modification/change
This theme, made by Jinwen, is pretty good. During my modification and adjustment, he also offered me a lot help. However I felt that most excellent themes became totally ruined under my construction due to my lack for HTML and CSS. I admit that I do have some talents in languages and I do have little exercise on coding (in fact I barely practice my language skills). But how to get a perfect, customized theme? One solution is to customize is either paying or begging. Isn’t it awkward for saying so? Recently I know a little bit more about the codes in modifying themes for little K, btw I got to know a linux girl on Twitter who provides translation series about JQuery of which I think will be a great resource for most of the site builders. Now I’m happy to share the translation to all of you.
http://doublechou.us/creating_a_polaroid_photo_viewer_with_css3_and_jquery/

2. Multilingual
My first multilingual post is ‘Demonoid Invitation code share’, with Chinese at the top and English at the bottom. Eventually this post dies since the short of invitation codes and the block of my site. But the funnies thing is that a bunch of people came to this post via search engines and ask for invitations, including a large quantity of English speakings. The search engine is powerful, meanwhile a multilingual site is essential for a site’s visit count. If we take the visit gain of one single post with fabulous content as 1, in my opinion, the total gain of transforming this single language site into a multilingual site shall equal to the product of languages added multiplies the post amount. I happen to have the ability to translate most of my posts. Presuming I master another language in the future, I will post in that language too. Today this post shall be considered as the first of many to come.
Oh, BTW, the plugin that realizes multilingual is WPML Multilingual CMS introduced by Jinwen. You may check for further usages on Jinwen’s post: WordPress网站多语言化插件WPML试用

3. Content, content, and content
First let me conclude the most popular posts/pages: QQ for Mac Update Log, Demonoid Invitation code share and Based64 Code Conversion. The last one is a page based on the js file enclosed by coolflyr_reg, for converting Thunder download links into common links. The first one is an unofficial update log and sneak peek post about the mainland wide famous IM software QQ, however Pfau stopped sitting in the front row and the software itself has no updates in months, this post dies. Before it dies, this post and another one on newsniper.com, are the fastest QQ for Mac news providers on Internet. Pfau and Newsniper are close to QQ for Mac developer and able to give all users previews and receives feedbacks from them. We’re so fast that a lot of other forums, sites would quote some or all of our news.
So, where can we find popularities? The answer lies in applicability. If the post focus on products or technologies of greater applicability, this post is more like to be popular. Another problem arose: there’re too many of them who write about the same stuff, you have to be faster, more detailed with more supportive/offensive ideas. I am quite a lazy guy with a lot pride, thus my posts are most likely surrounding my own feelings. Personality is important for individuals. But I have to confess this is no good for my site, I cannot live in my own world forever.
The original intension of making this site, is to provide introductions/tutorial to various products, especially Apple products. This is not a bad idea but it’s connected with huge homework. There are too many tutorial sites and there are site dedicate to translating famous foreign blogs. If I stand out alone, it can’t even be good, let alone the better. Then what’s the hit for personal blogs? Like Jinwen’s blog (creator of this theme) and mg12 (creator of the famous theme ‘inove’). A simple reason is to carry on day after day, week after week, with a few new stuff coming out once in a while. Then I will not say how many posts I would submit per day, and swear what will I do, all I have to do is to focus on my experiences, about life, product and technology. Whether they are nonsense or ridiculous to you, I’ll make myself believe first.

End of post, thanks to all.
